Come get dirty at a hands-on compost workshop, including tips and demos for circular gardening

Roll up your sleeves and actively participate in a hands-on composting workshop, including discussion and demos about:

  • Circularity of compost, along with some practical tips for composting at home or in a community setting
  • Circular gardening tips, including how to create seed starters from paper toilet-paper rolls
  • Seed saving, including an opportunity for seed swaps or plant swaps
  • Circular Challenges: help us crowd-source suggestions and resources for 1) good garden planning, 2) repair of lawn furniture or accessories, 3) community garden tool sharing

Some things we will cover during the compost workshop:

  • Choosing compost feedstocks
  • Managing greens and browns, heat, airflow, moisture, microbes
  • Worm composting
  • Screening and storing compost
  • Bokashi fermentation, for food scrap collection

No experience necessary. This meetup is free to attend and you are welcome to participate in whatever capacity you are comfortable with. That could mean jumping in and getting your hands dirty or just watching and asking questions.

This event is organized as a collaboration between Circular Calgary and Karuna Compost, a socially-minded organization that is exploring how backyard composting can lead to better health, stronger communities, and a deeper appreciation of the living world.

Please note: there are no bathrooms or running water on site, so prepare accordingly.
