Where: Hillhurst United Church, Calgary AB
When: Every other Sunday, after service (Starting April 19 2026)
Have you ever wondered what really happens to food scraps after they’re thrown away?
Join us for a family-friendly meetup series, where we learn about composting together by caring for a worm bin over several months..
Each participating household will optionally receive a small worm composting bin and ongoing guidance. Rather than a one-time class, this series invites families to return each month to share observations, ask questions, and learn from one another.
Together, we will:
- Build and care for a worm compost bin
- Learn what worms need to stay healthy
- Explore the hidden microbial world with a microscope
- Harvest finished worm castings
- Plant something new to take home
No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands a
little dirty.
Who this is for: The program is being delivered in as part of the NextGen children and youth programs and open anyone in the congregation who interested in a learning about composting in a group setting.
Cost: FREE to attend. Donations accepted for worm bins, to cover the cost of supplies.
